E. Charles
Welsh
July 15, 1933 – March 16, 2021
Edwin Charles (Charlie) Welsh passed away on Monday March 16, 2021, at the age of 87 in Georgetown, Texas. Charlie was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on July 15, 1933, the son of Dorothy and Edwin Welsh. He was married to Jean Elizabeth Connors on February 22, 1958. They raised 2 sons, David and Tom, and a daughter, Lisa. He married Sharon Perdue in Kansas City, Missouri on July 1, 1989. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Jean. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children, David Welsh, Lisa Doctor, and Tom Welsh, stepchildren Rod Cordsen and Carrie Windsor, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
Charlie's early professional career was spent as the pastor of The Kirk of Kansas City (previously known as The John Knox Presbyterian Kirk) from 1965-1974. He earned his PhD in Psychology at the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1974 and spent several years in private practice before becoming the Clinical Director at Research Mental Health Services in Lee's Summit, Missouri. After a long career of community service, Charlie and Sharon retired to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas in 2007 where they have been loving life.
During his years at The Kirk he was known as Chuck, but later he preferred Charlie. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a very kind man with a loving heart who was always willing to help a friend. Charlie cared for all creatures and had a great affinity for animals, especially his dogs. He was very creative which was shown through his thoughtful sermons, therapeutic solutions, poetry, photography, participation in local theater and singing groups, and countless home improvement and gardening projects. Charlie was always eager to enjoy what each day had to offer and to see what goodness he could bring to every situation – he loved life. Recently he said he was not afraid to die because he was already in heaven.
Two outdoor memorial services will be held to honor Charlie: one in Georgetown, Texas, on May 8, 2021 at 2 pm at Williams Grove; and one in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 29, 2021 at 2 pm at The Kirk of Kansas City. Masks and social distancing will be required at each event. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to some of Charlie's favorite charities: Faith in Action, the SPCA, and the Down Syndrome Guild.
