Obituary

Douglas Ross Willoughby, 86, of Sun City Texas in Georgetown, Texas, passed away the evening of July 7, 2024, at home after a brief illness.

Doug was born to Douglas E. and Jean (Ross) Willoughby on July 26, 1937, in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He graduated from Auburn High School in 1955 and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1959.  His first job after college brought him to Poughkeepsie, New York to work for IBM Corporation. While working for IBM, he earned a master's degree in industrial administration from Union College in Schenectady, NY. He retired from IBM in 1991 after 32 years of dedicated service.

It was at IBM where he met his future bride, Joan Lucile Casement.  They were married on April 14, 1962, at the Poughkeepsie Reformed Church and celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to Joan's passing in 2017.

While he and Joan raised their family in Wappingers Falls, NY, Doug was a very involved member of the New Hackensack Reformed Church, serving as Elder and member of the Finance Committee.  He was a member and volunteer in the Mid-Hudson Tres Dias community, in addition to being a volunteer with the Boy Scouts.  With his family, Doug enjoyed boating, water skiing and camping trips that took them over much of the lower 48 states.

In 1998, Doug and Joan relocated to Sun City Texas to be closer to their children. He was president of the Computer Club and aided many neighbors with their computer issues by making house calls or giving phone support.  In 2005, he founded the Alternative Healing and Wellness Club, which has provided a forum for himself and like-minded individuals to share in their natural healing journey.  Through these clubs, he touched many who would reach out for help and advice.  Doug was a member of The Worship Place, an interdenominational church in Sun City Texas.

Doug is survived by his children David (Lori), Glen, and Janine Willoughby, all of Austin, Texas, and grandchildren Jeffrey, Daniel, and Greg Willoughby, and Paige, Kathryn, and Jason Giordano. Also surviving are his brother, Ross Willoughby of Framingham, Massachusetts; and brothers-in-law Robert Casement of Poughkeepsie, and Douglas Casement of San Antonio; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Service of Celebration of his life will be held at The Worship Place on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Worship Place Memorial Fund, 811 Sun City Boulevard, Georgetown TX 78633 or a charity of your choosing.
