Obituary

Doris Jean Schwausch, 78, passed away on September 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 12, 1947, in Georgetown, Texas, Doris Jean Schneider was the only child of Max and Ida Schneider. The family lived on a farm west of Walburg until Doris was six years old when they moved to Weir, Texas.

Doris was baptized on December 6, 1951, and confirmed on May 21, 1961, at Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown. Her confirmation verse was II Corinthians 5:15 – “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”

Doris attended Georgetown Independent Schools from the first grade through graduation from Georgetown High School in 1966. She always said she wanted to be a teacher. She was very active in the Future Homemakers of America organization, earning the prestigious State Homemaker Degree. After graduation, Doris attended Texas Tech University for a year, majoring in Home Economics. After her first year of college, she married the love of her life, Landon Kenneth Schwausch, on June 17, 1967, at Christ Lutheran Church. Doris then completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at The University of Texas at Austin in May 1970.

In August that same year, she began her dream job of teaching home economics at Jarrell ISD. While there, she sponsored the Future Homemakers, the Cougar yearbook staff, and the Cougarette Drill Team. In 1978 she continued her teaching career at Pflugerville High School, where she remained for 31 years. In 1981, she received her Masters of Curriculum and Instruction Degree from UT Austin.

Doris had many professional accomplishments. She served as President of the Vocational Home Economics Teacher Association of Texas, was published in an Illinois teacher’s magazine, and served as guest speaker at St. Edward’s University. She also established the Ready, Set, Teach Program to foster student interest in teaching as a career, as well as mentoring numerous student teachers. She was especially proud of the many former students who went on to become teachers.

In 1984, Doris and her husband were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer Suzanne. Their son, Landon Matthew, followed in 1986. As the children grew up, you could find Doris helping with both Girl and Boy Scout activities, sporting events, and school bands. In 2003, Landon and Doris began to help raise their five grandchildren, and her involvement in school activities started all over again, later adding livestock projects to the mix. She was proud of all the children and loved each as if they were her own. She was also proud to support her husband, son, and oldest grandson who have served in the military.

After retiring in 2009, Doris returned to her hobbies of sewing, reading, and planning family gatherings and reunions. She even continued to substitute for Career & Technology teachers over the next 11 years.

Throughout her life she was active in her faith, teaching Sunday School and serving on various boards at Redeemer Lutheran Church, helping establish Point of Grace Church in Pflugerville, and after joining Zion Lutheran, serving on the Reunion Committee.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Ida Schneider, in-laws Arthur and Ruth Schwausch, and brothers-in-law, Harold Schwausch and Jackie Hefner.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Landon Kenneth, daughter Jennifer Suzanne Schwausch, son Landon Matthew Schwausch (Laura), grandchildren Caden Taylor Schwausch (Melody), Tristan Riley Schwausch, Logan Cooper Schwausch-Deckard, Roxanne Alyssa Moran, and Suzanne Elizabeth Schwausch, great grandson Cash Kenneth Schwausch, in-laws Loretta Hefner, Elaine Schlomach (Harvey), and Ricky Schwausch (Debbie), as well as numerous family members and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Doris will be held at 10:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 6101 FM 1105, Georgetown, Texas, on Monday, September 21, 2026, with Pastor Zach McIntosh officiating. Honorary pallbearers are her many nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Zion Lutheran Pam Hight or Roy Arldt Scholarship funds.
