Obituary

Doreen Boffey Scott, 78, passed away surrounded by loving family members on February 28, 2024 following a courageous battle with cancer and heart failure in Georgetown, Texas.

Doreen began her life in 1945 in Tarleton, Lancashire, England, and was born to Annie and Norman Boffey.  She completed commercial college in England and became a skilled shorthand typist. Doreen's adventurous spirit and trust in God led her to travel all over the world, eventually landing in Switzerland to work in L'Abri for the Christian philosopher Francis Schaeffer. She returned to the United States and eventually moved to northern Michigan, where she met her husband, Darrell Scott. Upon marrying Darrell, Doreen gained three wonderful stepchildren and later had a daughter. Doreen had a varied career path, including working as a secretary, a probate register, an office manager for D. Scott Builders, a women's bible studies leader, and a crew in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Doreen and Darrell loved to boat and fish together, leading them to spend many winters in the Florida Keys. During their time together, they also gathered friends from and lived in Northport, Michigan; Lake Ann, Michigan; Young Harris, Georgia; Frankfort, Michigan; and Georgetown, Texas.

In addition to fishing, Doreen enjoyed swimming, biking, hiking, gardening, playing her dulcimer, bible study, and camping. She loved animals and always had a dog and at least one cat. She appreciated beautiful scenery, warm weather, British humor, and a good cup of tea. Doreen's family describes her as well-traveled, clever, tender-hearted, and adventurous. She is loved dearly and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marian Blackburn. Doreen is survived by her husband of 49 years, Darrell Scott; daughter, Heather Celkis and her husband, Mike; stepdaughter Pamela Gafa and her husband, Mike; stepdaughter Cindy LaPlante and her husband, Joe, and stepson, Andrew Scott and his wife, Deanne. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alyssa White, Kameron Scott, Connor Scott, Trevor Gafa, Spencer Gafa, and Devin Celkis. Her great-grandchildren include Austin White, Shihiro Muramatsu, Soshi Muramatsu, and Sano Gafa Muramatsu.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at The Worship Place, 811 Sun City Blvd, Georgetown, TX 78633. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested monetary donations be sent to The Worship Place.
