In Loving Memory of Donnie Sanders
A Tribute to a Remarkable Life
Donnie Lea Sanders, 96, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on July 5, 2026. She departed this world surrounded by several family members, leaving behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy of love, kindness, and strength.
Our mother was born on March 14, 1930, in the Old Union Community of Texas. A true Rose of Texas, she possessed a generous spirit and a gentle heart. Throughout her life, she touched everyone she met with her warmth, compassion, and unwavering support, leaving a lasting impact on family, friends, and the communities in which she lived.
She embraced life with energy and determination, enjoying many rounds of golf and training tirelessly on her bicycle before completing several 100-mile rides. She also expressed her love through baking, making what was surely more than 1,000 batches of cookies for family and friends over the years. Her signature molasses sugar cookies became a cherished tradition, enjoyed by all who were fortunate enough to receive them.
A devoted mother, she raised her children with patience, wisdom, and unconditional love. As a military wife, Donnie often shouldered the responsibilities of caring for her family during her husband's many deployments. Throughout their military journey, she created a loving and stable home while living in several states, as well as in Japan and Germany.
Beyond her role as a mother, she was a cherished sister, trusted friend, confidante, and mentor. She built a successful career in banking, beginning as a bookkeeper and advancing to the position of branch manager through her dedication, hard work, and leadership. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and integrity, along with a family who will forever honor her memory and strive to carry forward the values she instilled in them.
Donnie was the matriarch of a family which she generously cared for. She leaves behind her loving children: David Sanders of Florence, Alabama, Denise and husband, Larry Pellerito of Scottsdale, Arizona. Debbie Sanders and Kevin Locke of Georgetown, Texas, caring sisters and cousin: Ann Cravens, Linda Ashely and Sue Doyle, precious grandchildren: Trent Lantzsch, Brenna Sanders Ort and husband Chad, Drew Sanders Munson and wife, Angela, Lukas Couvaras and wife Carrie, John Connard Couvaras and wife Angela; four great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, the children of her two younger sisters. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alton and Katie Herod, her brother Louis, and her husband of 71 years, Duane Sanders.
We invite family, friends, caregivers and The Delaney staff to join us in celebrating her remarkable life and the impact she had on all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us every day.
