Obituary

On a sweltering summer afternoon in Waco, Texas, Don was born to Tom C. Mabray and Jean Mabray on August 10, 1934. Because of the heat Don was placed in a window to keep him cool, like a pie out of the oven. Don often claimed that he must have received a couple of transfusions of green and gold blood.

As a child, Don grew up in Waco, Dallas and Houston. He often stated his growing up years with sister, Shirley and brothers, Tom and Gary, were outstanding and as wonderful as they could have been.

Don obtained a bachelor's degree and a life-long love of the Bears from Baylor University and attended SMU Law School.

Don's business career included owning insurance agencies, real estate firms, a Ford/Mercury dealership and the Metro Denver relocation guide. He shared himself with cities as diverse as Waco, Dallas, Houston, Marble Falls, Colorado Springs, Denver, Perry Park and Georgetown.

During his lifetime, he enjoyed golf, tennis, college athletics, private aviation, water/scuba sports, bridge, music and mystery novels and movies. His love of God, family and friends were the most important things to him.

Dad was a member of Rotary Clubs for 47 years, was a prior Director of the Baylor Bear Foundation Club, and a past Director of the Houston Touchdown Club.

Don is survived by his wonderful wife, Barbara Barousse Mabray; two sons: Wynn Mabray and his wife Cheryll of Horseshoe Bay , and Craig Mabray and his wife Shannon of Friendswood; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Mabray of Round Top; and one precocious dog, Beaux of Sun City.

"Carpe Diem" was his life's motto.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00 am in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home.
