Obituary

Donald Louis Heckman, a Vietnam Veteran, was born on January 29, 1932, and danced his way into Heaven on December 13, 2020 at the age of 88. Don was the oldest boy of Arbie and Inez Heckman. He was raised on the family farm in Postville Iowa.

Don joined the United States Air Force after High School graduation and served for over 22 years as a Tactical Maintenance Specialist. Don married the love of his life, Regina M. Segrist, while in the Air Force and together they traveled the world and started raising a family.

After his career in the Air Force, Don and Regina settled in Williamson County, Texas and he started his second career as a welder. Don was a member of Boilermakers Local #74 and worked on many power plants throughout Texas. Don was also a member of The Masons and Scottish Rites.

Don had a love of all things mechanical and devoted his time to repairing vehicles and machinery for friends and family. He always said, "You don't fix it, you repair it, because repairing is permanent". Don also worked with his son AJ in AJ's construction business and started his own welding business.

Don was very proud of his German Heritage and had a love of German dancing. He was an accomplished dancer and could be found at German festivals and Oktoberfest's throughout Texas. Don could be found at the Biergarten in Walberg, Texas on many a Saturday night.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Regina M. (Segrist) Heckman; son, Arbie (AJ) Heckman; daughters, Alicia L. Reed-Oliver and husband, Charlie Oliver, and Jaquetta I. and husband, Josh Richards; all of Williamson County, Texas. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Elyese Tinlin and Talon Richards; three great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 10th, 2021 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home with Pastor Ben Terry officiating. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for light refreshments in the Reception Hall of Ramsey Funeral Home. Mr. Heckmann will be laid to rest at Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery at a later date.
