Obituary

Donald "Don" Gerlinger passed away peacefully on November 1, 2019.

Don was born February 15, 1930 to Dora and Christian Gerlinger in Chicago, IL.  He was the youngest of 5 boys and older brother to 1 sister.  He excelled in school sports, earning a full scholarship in football to The University of Montana where he was captain of the football team and president of his fraternity.  Upon graduation, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot, stationed in Big Spring, TX where he met his beloved wife, Nola.  Don was assigned to bases in Germany, Louisiana, Virginia, California, South Carolina, Japan and served in a pilot exchange program with the Royal Canadian Airforce where the family lived for 3 years.  Don's Air Force career included 3 tours of duty in Vietnam; 3 rd tour was voluntary.   His retirement in 1976, as a highly decorated Lt Col brought the family to Georgetown.  Don was a teacher and coach for several years in GISD.  He volunteered his time to many organizations such as Babe Ruth baseball, Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.  Together with his wife Nola, they devoted themselves to their family, friends, church and community.  Don will be long remembered for his selfless contributions as he touched many lives in the most positive ways which has been echoed to the Gerlinger family over the years.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nola Gerlinger – sister, Lila Del'Aringa of Phoenix, AZ, daughter, Chris Gerlinger Lively of Round Rock, daughter Laura Gerlinger Gatlin & husband Paul of Georgetown, son Steve Gerlinger & wife Janis of Leander, grandchildren – Steven Lively, Eric Lively, Larry Kasper, Kristen Gerlinger, Lindsey Gerlinger and Aiden Gerlinger, step granddaughters Shannon Lively and Holly Gatlin Peterson and great granddaughter Alaina Lively.

Charitable contributions that Don supported include: American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children Hospital and Habitat for Humanity.
