Donald G. Decker (Don), 86, of Georgetown Texas passed away on April 30, 2018.
Don was born to parents, Charles and Ivy (Aikens) Decker on August 3, 1931, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, for which we the people, extend our gratitude. The Air Force is where he met his wonderful wife to be, Ellie Peters. Don married his beloved Ellie at the end of their military service on the summer day of August 14, 1954, in Arlington, Virginia.
Don attended Texas Tech University and earned his undergraduate Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He went on to obtain a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Oklahoma and then proceeded to work for the University of Texas in Austin as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (25 years), from which he retired in 1992.
Don, along with Ellie, avidly worshiped the Lord at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Texas. He also had his hand in many clubs and organizations, such as: the North East Austin Kiwanis Club as a youth baseball coach (10 years); a member of the National Association of Campus Safety; a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers; and, he was an active member of the Georgetown Country Club (20 years and avid golfer). Don will be remembered as a master handy man. He was creative and innovative and had the ability to fix and build just about anything.
Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ellie Decker of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Kathleen Decker; son, Keith Decker; daughter-in-law Diane Decker; grandsons, Matthew and Drew Decker; granddaughter-in-law, Megan Decker; sister, Debbie Blackard; sister-in-law, Florence Wilk; and the Wilk niece and nephews (Diane, Thomas, David, and Bobby).
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Texas on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m.
