Donald Rayford Childers born February 8, 1939 to Jerry Glen Childers and Jewell Inez Childers in Albany, Texas.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas.
The family invites you to the reception immediately following the service in the Reception Hall of Ramsey Funeral Home.
Don attended grade school in Albany but the family later moved to Odessa, TX, where he graduated from Odessa High School in 1957.
He attended Odessa Jr. College and then the University of Texas in Austin.
Upon moving back to Odessa, he worked at may jobs in the oilfield for Rumbaugh Trucking, El Paso Natural Gas and Purex Chemicals. He owned an AAMCO Transmission shop in El Paso, a hotel in Ruidoso, NM, and a hardware store in Liberty Hill, TX. But most of his working life, he was a home builder and contractor. He built many houses and businesses and loved to build furniture.
Everyone that knew Don would tell you he loved animals and being outdoors. His dogs were always by his side and he fed most of the hummingbirds in Central Texas every year.
Don married his wife, Barbara, November 2, 1979 in Odessa, TX. They lived in Crane, TX before moving to Liberty Hill in 1986. The following years moved them around Texas several times but they came back to Liberty Hill in 2008 and moved to Round Rock in 2018. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown.
Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Bill Childers of San Antonio; children: Diane (Childers) Knight and husband, Donny Knight of Murphy, TX, Laura Childers of Dallas, TX, Carey Childers of Euless, TX, Kasey Cauble and wife, Kim of Thorndale, TX; grandchildren: Lecia Manning and husband, Jared of Grand Prairie, Kolt Cauble, Dereck Cauble, Jordyn Smith and Madi Smith of Thorndale; great grandson, Dillon Manning of Grand Prairie.
