Don W.
Brewster
August 4, 1938 – March 15, 2020
Don Windell Brewster passed away peacefully on March 15th at 3:30 am. He was born in Dallas, Texas on August 8, 1938. His family moved to Tyler, Texas where he graduated from John Tyler High School in 1956. Marrying the love of his life, Martha, in 1958, they together built a life of love and commitment that lasted 59 years, until Martha's passing in 2017.
Soon, after marriage, Don served in the Army at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. This was during the Cuban Crisis, where he remembered sitting on a ship ready to deploy at the Bay of Pigs. After his service, he began a career at Deluxe Check Printers that would be a vital part of this life. He spent 30-plus years as a plant manager for a company he was proud to represent. Through the years, his coworkers became his lifelong friends who continued to call and encourage him until the very end of his life. In his retirement, Don and Martha moved to Georgetown, Texas to be closer to their only daughter and her family.
Don was a wonderful father, husband and friend. His motto was "work hard and play harder." He enjoyed having a Cutty and water and a dip in his pool, welcoming anyone who happened to venture through the back gate. The country music and laughter poured over the fence, beckoning all to come and enjoy the fun. He and Martha were avid Coca Cola collectors and enjoyed many years traveling the country, buying and selling Coca Cola memorabilia.
Despite his health issues, he continued to live an active life. His scooter logged many miles, carrying him through the acres of trail surrounding the Wesleyan grounds. He delighted in the roadrunners that raced him along the way and the herd of deer feeding every evening in the grove of live oaks.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and residents of The Wesleyan Assisted Living of Georgetown for their friendship and laughter, and his Visiting Angel Pam who made Tuesdays and Thursdays days to look forward to. Also, Dr. Tony Shallin, his nurse Holly, and Dr. Dominic DeKaratry for their compassionate care.
Don is survived by his daughter Amy Whitehead, son-in-law Mark Whitehead and Don's pride and joy, grandson Parker Whitehead. Due to the current health climate, memorial services will be postponed to a later date. To say he was a fighter would be an understatement. He surpassed his fatal diagnosis by 16 years and 6 months, a fact that brought him great pride. We will all miss his indomitable spirit.
