Domingo Castro Herrera Sr. of Florence, TX, passed away on July 3, 2026 at 84 years old.

Domingo was born in Yoakum, TX on March 1st, 1942, and was the son of Manuel and Marcelina Herrera. He will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Domingo worked in farming in his youth, then became a truck driver for many years until finally becoming a master cement mason in a local union, which he retired from.

He had many passions and interests. Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, playing dominoes and simply sitting outside with a cold one and enjoying the fresh air. He was a die-hard Oklahoma University (OU) football fan and loved football in general. He was also a tremendous boxing and baseball fan. He loved his western movies and probably watched every western movie and show ever made!

He was incredibly gifted with his hands and could make virtually anything by himself, and you would swear it was a brand-new building assembled by a team of contractors. He devoted himself to learning many things. A true jack of all trades. Whether he was fixing an old car engine, repairing a fence or building something out of nothing he was always working with his hands and a smile. His work ethic was truly unmatched.

He was an excellent cook, whose many dishes and chili sauces were always eagerly anticipated by everyone! Some would say his brisket was the BEST in TX.

One of Domingo's greatest passions was his vegetable garden. He was extremely knowledgeable about it and took great joy in its bounty which loved sharing with family and friends. He was an avid rose gardener and a talented landscaper as well. He and his beloved wife Nieves had a very big soft spot for their many pets, and they treated each and every one as a valuable family member.

Domingo was a devout Catholic and attended Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bertram for many years, he made several trips to his favorite church in McAllen TX, Basilica of San Juan del Valle - National Shrine.

His most beloved event was getting together with family and friends. He was very proud of his children, and they meant the world to him. Nothing made him happier than cooking up a feast or going out to eat with as many family members as possible. He will be sorely missed every day, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Domingo was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nieves who passed in 2021. He was preceded in death by son Rufino Herrera. He is survived by daughter Barbara Herrera Ventura and spouse Romo, son Robert Herrera, son Abelardo Herrera and spouse Diane, daughter Cynthia Cruz and spouse Jose, daughter Irene Herrera, son Domingo Herrera Jr., daughter Mary Quintana, daughter San Juana Munitz and spouse Michael, son Domingo Rosales, daughter Yolanda Miranda and spouse Elder. He is survived by sister Josephine Herrera Luna. Preceded in death by many siblings. Domingo and Nieves' children have given them many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
