David William
Noyes
March 12, 1939 – May 22, 2025
David William Noyes passed away on May 22, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas, from complications related to surgery. David was born March 12, 1939, in Salina, Utah, to Dr. Rae Eugene Noyes and Helen Charlotte McArthur Noyes. David had a joyful childhood with loving parents, siblings, and friends. As a young boy, David roamed his beloved small town of Salina, Utah, on his bicycle. He was a proud farm boy, taught to be resilient, resourceful, and responsible. He always finished what he started.
David loved music and singing. He often sang at Sunday church meetings, weddings, funerals, and community events. After graduating from North Sevier High School in 1957, David attended BYU for two years before receiving a call to serve a two-and-a-half-year mission in Finland for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David dearly loved Finland, its people, and its food. He successfully learned Finnish and thrived in the cold Finnish winters. David fully embraced the traditions of Finland, especially the sauna, including jumping into a hole cut into the ice to end the sauna ritual. A quick dip into one of the 60,000 lakes dotting the Finnish landscape was pure joy to him.
After fulfilling an honorable mission, David returned to BYU to finish his schooling, graduating with a degree in Accounting and a composite minor in Music and Economics in 1966. While at BYU, David studied voice and sang with several university choirs. During his senior year, David was cast as a member of Janie Thompson's BYU Program Bureau, the precursor to the Young Ambassadors, as a singer and dancer. With the BYU Program Bureau, he and his future wife, Jan, along with 34 other students, traveled by bus, presenting shows across the country. As the US tour came to a close, a smaller group of 8, including David and Jan, were selected to participate in a Department of Defense-sponsored tour of the Northeast Command in Greenland and Iceland. They entertained the troops at Naval, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard bases.
After returning from that adventure, David was hired by Dow Chemical. Soon after beginning work at Dow, he was assigned as one of the accountants on the Napalm project. David began to feel that he could not, in good conscience, be involved in the production of that product, so in 1967, he returned to Utah where a civilian job with the United States Air Force Audit Agency awaited him. He went on to work with the group for 30 years, 27 of them at Hill Air Force Base in Utah and 3 years in Germany.
In early August 1971, Jan Allyson Camp returned from her church mission. David was waiting at the Salt Lake Airport for her, they immediately became engaged and on August 27, 1971 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Deborah, Matthew, Andrew, and Elizabeth soon joined David and Jan to make their family complete.
In 1974, David fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He sang, soloed, and toured with the choir for 20 years and considered that opportunity to be one of the greatest joys and one of the greatest blessings of his life.
In 1987 David and Jan had the unique opportunity to take their family to Germany, where both were employed by the Department of Defense. David, Jan, and the kids took full advantage of the opportunity to see and experience as many new places as possible in the three years they lived in Europe. The highlight for David was being able to return to his beloved Finland with his family.
David was devoted to the teachings of Jesus Christ as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings over the years, including Primary and Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, Elder's Quorum Teacher, Stake High Councilor, and Bishop of the Bitburg Germany Military Ward.
In 1997, David retired from both The Tabernacle Choir and the Air Force Audit Agency. In 2001, Jan was again hired by the Department of Defense Dependant Schools as a High School Counselor, this time assigned to Yokota Air Base in Japan. There, David enjoyed an unexpected second career teaching English at two Japanese Universities, Den-en Chofu University in Kawasaki and Meisei University in Ome. In addition, David taught at Hachioji Higashi High School and Tachikawa Middle School. After seven years in Japan, David and Jan were transferred, spending two years in Ankara, Turkey, followed by three years in Brussels (Everberg), Belgium. David and Jan loved everything about living overseas.
In 2012, they retired to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas. Once again, they met wonderful new friends and quickly adopted their "Active Senior Lifestyle!"
David is survived by his wife Jan, his children Deborah (Curtis), Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth (Ernie), and his grandchildren: Rachel (Morgan), Joshua (Lauren), Tyler, Anna, Brooke, Cash, and his brand-new great-granddaughter Abigail. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rae and Helen, his sister Carolyn, brother-in-law Calvin, and sister-in-law Gwen.
David, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa,
God Be With You Till We Meet Again.
