Darrell Glenn
Freeman
September 29, 1955 – November 2, 2020
Darrell Glenn Freeman, 65, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on November 2, 2020 at his home in Georgetown.
He was born in Houston, Texas on September 29, 1955, son of Billy Freeman and the late Charlene Jordan Freeman. In addition to his father, Darrell is survived by his best friend and soulmate of 32 years, Lisa Floyd-Freeman and their son Jon Austin Freeman, both of Georgetown, their son James Denson & wife Liz of Bertram, their grandchildren Cheyanne Box, Skyler Denson and Bryson Denson of Bertram, his mother-in-law Oleta Johns Floyd of Georgetown, his sister-in-law Nicole Smith & husband Richard Smith of Liberty Hill, his niece Chesna Smith and great-nephew Colin Smith of Liberty Hill, his brother-in-law Jerry Floyd & wife Shannon & children of Liberty Hill, his brother-in-law James Monroe Floyd & wife Jodi & children of Ogden, Utah, and countless friends that he considered part of his family.
Darrell worked for Rabbit Hill School in early adult years and was very influential and iconic to many children that grew up at Rabbit Hill. Darrell then worked for the City of Round Rock, retiring after 20 years of service. After retiring, of course he never truly retired. He was a treasured asset to the family daycare, Kids 'R Forever, which is connected to their home in Georgetown. He was a very important presence and had a very impactful influence on the children that attended the family daycare over a 30-year span. Darrell had an extreme talent and love for drawing and could whip up just about anything you could imagine on short notice. From detailed hotrod drawings to artwork for Rabbit Hill and the daycare, he spent many hours crafting just the perfect piece for anyone that requested. Darrell was the most patient and kind soul to everyone he met. His family joked that he had two speeds, slow and slower, but he was ever present and dependable in the daily needs of his family, as well as his daycare family.
Darrell's parents owned Freeman Automotive in Georgetown. He and his father spent any free moment building and showing hotrods together. With racing in his bloodline, his passion became racing, in any form or fashion. When his oldest son James showed interest in BMX racing, he jumped on board and spent numerous hours traveling across the states pursuing that sport for his boys. When Jon Austin got older, he decided he wanted to race sprint cars like his grandpa Billy, so they started with go-carts and graduated to the sprint cars. Racing became a family hobby and Darrell managed several teams, as well as his own team, Freeman Racing. Billy, Darrell and Jon spent countless hours working on cars and racing at the tracks. When he wasn't at a racetrack, Darrell was busy rooting for his son James during football, coaching him up on the lineman drills. Both of his sons fondly remember that he was present and participating in all of their events through life. James remembers that most dads attended their son's football games, but his dad was present not only at the games, but at each and every single practice as well. He was not just your average father; he was an exceptional father and devoted all of his time with any interest they had.
Darrell's family is heartbroken over his sudden loss and while his absence will leave a hole in their hearts, they rest peacefully with the knowledge that Darrell knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior and is resting at the feet of Jesus. He was surely welcomed with open arms in heaven by his beloved mother Charlene, his late father-in-law Raymond "Cotton" Floyd and his beloved grandparents, Charlie & Ruby Jordan and Benton & Bertie Lee Freeman.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: James Denson, Jon Austin Freeman, Albert Wininger, Jimmy Albers, Troy Hubble, Dustin Weaver, Shane Clement and Chandler Floyd. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Skyler Denson, Bryson Denson, Colin Smith and James Wollam.
We are honored and blessed by the time we had with him on earth. We love you Darrell, dad, Poppy, Uncle and friend! Watch over us until we meet you on the other side for eternity.
