Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Hannaway, 74, passed away on March 21, 2026.

Chuck was born on July 30, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1970, where he played football and built lifelong friendships. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served one term of duty during the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand.

After completing his service, Chuck moved to Fort Myers, Florida, with close friends from high school—a place that would become home for much of his life. There, he built a steady career in the title industry, working as a title analyst for several companies. It was also in Florida where he settled down and raised his two children, Brooke and Ryan.

Chuck found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his family, fishing whenever he could, and riding his motorcycle. Known for his easygoing nature, Chuck was someone people gravitated toward—funny, kind, and endlessly good-natured. He had a way of making others laugh and remained lighthearted and goofy even in difficult moments.

He retired in 2018 and spent the last five years of his life in Austin, Texas, living at an assisted living facility near his sister Penny as he bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease. Despite the challenges, Chuck found comfort in routine and connection, especially in the weekly Sunday walks he and Penny shared—quiet moments that became a meaningful tradition.

Chuck is survived by his daughter, Brooke (39), and son, Ryan (34); his brother, Patrick Hannaway; and his sisters, Carol Block, Barbie Hansen, and Penny Denham.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and the ease with which he brought joy to those around him. He was truly easy to love, and he will be deeply missed.
