Obituary

Charles Garrett (Garry) Aston was born on April 10, 1950, to Charles Henry Aston and Jane Aston Kinsey in Dallas, Texas.

He graduated high school in Harlingen, Texas, in 1968 and later moved to Dallas, Texas. There he met his lifelong love and partner Sherrill Shipman Aston. They married in 1970 and spent the last 56 years together.

Garry always wanted to be in law enforcement from a very early age. He was sworn into the US Border Patrol in April 1972. He attended the Border Patrol academy in Los Fresnos, Texas, and his first duty station was Lordsburg, New Mexico. From there his career expanded 5 different states and various positions within INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) and later Homeland Security. He enjoyed learning new things and taking his family on new adventures over the course of his 35-year career. He was a Border Patrol agent for 8 years serving in New Mexico and Texas. He was an Immigration Inspector, Exams Officer and Supervisor Deportation Officer in Denver, Colorado. He then was a Supervisor Deportation Officer and Criminal Investigator in San Antonio, Texas, then transferring to Houston, Texas. His next position was Special Agent In Charge of an immigration prison in Eloy, Arizona, and then on to Cheyenne, Wyoming, as a Criminal Investigator and ending his career in San Angelo, Texas, as an ICE Agent in 2007.

Garry loved the outdoors hunting, camping and fishing with Sherrill and their 3 children. He had many friends that he hunted with in the mountains of Colorado that has lasted for over 40 years.

In his last 20 years he fought a gallant battle against Huntington’s Disease. He and Sherrill were active members of the Worship Place Church in Sun City and Garry was baptized by Pastor Kelly Barnett at the Rocky Hollow campus on August 28, 2016.

Garry was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Aston, his mother, Jane Aston Kinsey, and his stepfather, JD Kinsey. Also, his favorite cousin, Kathy Jean Egbert.

He is survived by his wife Sherrill Aston, his daughter DeeAnn DeGroff (Andy), his son Charley Aston (Nichole) and daughter Angela Aston, five grandchildren; Garrett Aston (Bailey), Jacob Aston (Emilie), Austin Girardin, Allie Girardin and Grayson Aston, and his brother, Randy Aston (Lisa) and many cousins and friends.
