Obituary

Carolyn Louise "Birdie" Ehrenfeld, 85, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, music, and devotion to family.

Born on September 24, 1940, in Lancaster, Ohio, Birdie was the only child of Charles and Marvel Horseman. Her faith journey began early, shaped by cherished childhood "walks and talks with Jesus"—memories that guided her throughout her life.

Birdie attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and met her husband of 63 years, Dr. David C. Ehrenfeld. She went on to enjoy a distinguished career in education, teaching pre-K, third grade, gifted-and-talented programs, music and theater arts, and GED classes. Her exceptional creative skills as an educator earned her "Teacher of the Year" honors in both the Lake Travis and Georgetown public school districts.

While living in Biloxi, Mississippi, Birdie also appeared on WLOX-TV as the host of the children's program Romper Room, where she was affectionately known as "Ms. Carolyn."

Birdie and her husband raised four children—Melanie Rose Stuart (Mark), Lori Jeanne Thompson (Michael), , David Andrew Ehrenfeld and Amy Elizabeth Reinarz (David) —and were recognized as Wichita Falls "Family of the Year" in 1985 for their contributions to the community and church. Birdie's passion for cultivating children's gifts extended beyond her home and classrooms, as she directed church choirs such as King's Kids and led the Austin-area youth performing arts troupe Rising Stars.

After retiring to Sun City, Texas, in 1998, Birdie and her husband enjoyed extensive world travel together. Among their favorite destinations were Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and the Holy Land.

Filled with the Holy Spirit and a deep love for Jesus, Birdie entered the Catholic Church in 2000. A devoted learner and servant, she became a member of the Carmelites and founded a women's Bible study at Saint Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown.

Birdie is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. David C. Ehrenfeld; her children; her grandchildren Trevor Stuart, Collin Stuart, Braden Stuart; McClane Thompson, Graham Thompson; Ellison Reinarz, and Cole Reinarz; and her great-grandchildren Ava and Evelyn Stuart; Lily Stuart; Liam Stuart; Merrick and Lyla Thompson, and Davy, Ryder, and Wyatt Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marvel Horseman.
