Obituary

Carol Ruth Solesbee, 72, of Georgetown, TX passed away on April 13, 2024 after a brief illness.  Her loss is completely unexpected, and her family and friends are profoundly saddened.

Carol was born on December 16, 1951 to Ella Ruth and Willie Solesbee in her beloved city of Baguio City, Philippine Islands. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Ella Solesbee and her brother, Steve Solesbee. She leaves behind, her other half Patty Steinocher, family, countless cousins, friends, her missionary family and her beloved dog Qi.

Carol was the most genuine person you could ever meet; she was unapologetically true to herself and to know her was to love her.  She loved fiercely for her family and friends and always wanted to be there for them in every way.  Carol was kind, generous, giving, strong, smart, stubborn at times, and some might say bossy.  But she had a heart of gold with a wonderful sense of humor and a smile that could make your day better.  If you knew Carol you knew she loved ketchup and thought it could make any meal better.

Carol's father was a minister in the Philippine Islands and she was raised with a strong and loving group of missionary children that remained lifelong friends.  Graduating in 1969 from Faith Academy in Manila, Carol maintained a close relationship with her Philippine Baptist mission family.  Carol understood those who grew up in the Philippines and they considered each other family. Her Philippine Baptist family will tell you they benefited from her humor, a no-nonsense approach to life, unconditional acceptance and how she continued to tend to those relationships.

Carol has been a healer to many. Certainly, in the area of acupuncture, but also a healer of those with hurting hearts, difficult pasts, and brokenness. Though not a "hugger" per se, she "hugged" many of us with kindness, cheerfulness, humor, and acceptance.  Many always felt she was genuinely glad to see me. What a gift of healing.

Carol joined the Texas Army National Guard as a Private First Class in January 1976, commissioned a second lieutenant in 1981 ending her career as a COL.  During her career of over 35 years Carol served in a variety of command and staff assignments and deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait.  Her assignment included Platoon Officer, Operations Officer, Executive Officer, and 5 years as the 49th AD DISCOM Material Management Center Automation Office.  She had Battalion and Brigade assignments as S3, S4 and as the Automated Data Processing (ADP) Chief.  In 1999 Carol was assigned to the National Guard Bureau as the ADP Plans Chief, Chief of Software Development at RCAS.  Carol then served in countless positions PM Combat Engineer/Material Handling Directorate, Deputy Director for with ASALT, Director of Forward Operations (Iraq and Kuwait) and finally as the Director of Operations & Deployments, Deputy for Acquisitions and Systems Management.  Carol had an illustrious career and was always on the forefront of challenging assignments to ensure the mission was met.

Carol held a BA in Computer Information Systems and a Masters from Central Michigan University.   After 35 years of service Carol retired, she went back to school and received her doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine (known to many thereafter as "Doc").  Opening up acupuncture clinics in Edmond and Ada Oklahoma; Carol loved helping people and she often treated friends and family out of the goodness of her heart.   After 3 years in Oklahoma Carol left her clinics to officially retire in Sun City.

Carol was a loving and giving person and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.  As her Uncle Truett would say she was "Gooder than an angel".

Memorials in Carol's name can be made to the American Legion Post 228, for an ROTC scholarship fund.
