Obituary

Betty Lou Ganey (1929–2025), age 96 — beloved mom, grandma, and great-granny — passed peacefully on December 3, 2025, at home in Liberty Hill, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was defined by devotion: to her family, her friends, her faith, and her community. She met every season of life with grace, warmth, and quiet strength.

Betty was born at home on November 22, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to John Aloysius Havey and Elizabeth Louise Justen Havey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dorothy; her brothers, John, Raymond, and Robert (known affectionately as Don, Pat, and Mike) and her son-in-law, James Curry.

Raised in Milwaukee, Betty graduated from St. Sebastian Catholic High School in 1948 and began her early career working in retail in the Milwaukee area.

On June 24, 1950, she married the love of her life, John Francis Ganey, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. John's career took the family across the Midwest and Texas, moving every couple of years, and together they raised nine children — two sons and seven daughters — whose lives she enriched with unwavering love, patience, humor, and wisdom. At one point in time, she had seven children born in eight years, but she met the challenge of raising a large family without complaint.

Once her children were older, Betty returned to the workforce and built a successful career as a corporate buyer, working with the Amlings Corporation in the Chicago area, and later as an interior designer with Robert Joseph Interiors, in Houston.

After retirement, Betty and John moved from Houston to Liberty Hill, Texas, in 1994 to enjoy peaceful country life on the Sweet Little Nest Ranch. She loved the community dearly and was active in the Liberty Hill Garden Club and several bridge groups. Her favorite was the twelve ladies in Liberty Hill who met monthly. In 2007, after two severe floods damaged their home, they relocated to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas. There, Betty continued her active life, participating in the Santa Rosa Ladies Group and cherishing the experience of her 2010 ACTS retreat.

Family was the soul of Betty Lou's world that she funded with her heart of gold.

She is survived by her nine children: John (Michele), Mary Anne (Bob), Betsy (Dave), Patty (James), Peggy (Gene), Kathleen (Robert), Tom (Erika), Francie, and Christie; her seventeen grandchildren: Gina (Jon), Megan (Chris), Austen, Michaela, Charley (Brittany), Elizabeth (Spencer), Casey (John), Gary, Brittany (Jostein), Erika, Isabella, Sean Thomas, Maddie (Daniel), Nick (Emily), Maggie, Laura (David), and Molly (Tyler); and her twenty-seven great-grandchildren: Allie, Ben, Justin, Jackson, Logan, Hunter, River, Rainey, Anna Grace, Wesley, Jameson, Lyla, John Walker, Leighton, Theo, Jakob, Birk, Miles, Colton, Milli, Sophie, Rowdy, Piper, Trysten, Reagan, Jack, and Theodore.
Mom loved babies, her children, and her ever-growing family. She loved a good party, the beach, her pool, a challenging bridge game, and her puzzles. In her final years, she found deep comfort and joy living with her daughter Patty in her "room with a view" overlooking the Sweet Little Nest Ranch.
