Barry Alan
Browne
July 24, 1944 – February 18, 2026
Barry Alan Browne was born to Earl Franklin Browne and Dorothy Griffin Browne in Dallas, Texas on July 24,1944, and died in Georgetown, Texas on February 18, 2026. He married Ann Norton on June 12,1971 in Bay Village, Ohio. Both attended undergraduate school at Southwestern University in Georgetown, which was the wonderful connection that got them together. At the heart of his story was Ann, his life partner of 55 years. Ann kept her marriage vows by caring beautifully for Barry as his health declined. He really, truly felt that he was "home" whenever she was around.
Barry graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio and then worked as a reporter for the San Antonio Light newspaper. He completed his undergraduate degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown, where he savored the rich brotherhood of Pi Kappa Alpha, cultivating these friendships throughout his life. He then taught English Literature at the University of Texas where he also was the dorm director for the UT football team, where many funny stories are remembered dealing with their dorm pranks.
Barry completed a dual Doctorate degree at the Health Science Center medical school at San Antonio in Biomedical Sciences and The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, specializing in pharmacokinetics to treat patients with drug interaction and intervention issues.
His love of medicine brought him to serve at Baylor Scott and White, in Temple, TX, as a Doctor of Pharmacology and Associate Professor for Texas A&M medical residents, specializing in drug information and pediatric and internal medicine. Barry spent decades guiding medical residents and coordinating with medical staff leaving a legacy of healing and hope.
Barry was a scratch golfer and loved the game his whole life. Instilled by his father who had been a golf professional, he learned all aspects of the swing and game. He and Ann shared many years playing golf at Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown, and revisiting their favorite places like Port Aransas and the Monterey Coast.
Barry was a literate, kind, and generous man, fiercely loving and loyal to his wife, Ann, and a large chosen family of longtime friends and former coworkers.
The family would like to thank Grace Episcopal Church for prayers and presence, Esther, a beloved family friend, Claire and Penny with Enhabit Hospice, and the entire staff at Brookdale Senior Living for steady care and encouragement.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 1314 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, TX, April 18 at 11:00, followed by a luncheon in the parish hall where others attending will be able to share stories about Barry.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Williamson County Animal Shelter, 1855 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX 78626, 512-943-3322.
