Barbara Ann
Warren Harris
February 7, 1943 – December 29, 2024
Barbara Ann Warren Harris was known as Babs to many, but her favorite people called her Mom or Grammy. Born on February 7th 1943 to her parents Melvin C. Warren and Effie Lucille Warren in Columbus, Mississippi where the US Army had stationed her father.
At a young age her family moved back to Fort Worth, Texas where she spent the majority of her childhood. When her parents opened an art gallery, she worked there for a number of years. During this time, she met her first husband, Charles Bowden and married. They went on to grow a family of 3 boys; Bartley Bowden, Curtis Bowden, and Clint Bowden. They were the joy of her life. After some time, she divorced and moved to Clifton where her parents bought a ranch so her father could paint full time and be inspired by the countryside views. It was here that she met the love of her life, James Harris.
They married and together built a house in Clifton to be their country home. The house would become known as "The Walkabout" where family would visit often. Barbara loved spending time with her family most and graciously hosted during the holidays for many years. Barbara liked spending time tending to her garden, traveling, and continued expanding her interest in the arts with trips to visit museums, Italy, and even a pottery retreat in Maine. She worked for the Bosque County Art Museum for some time and loved the environment it provided for her to be surrounded by art and socialize.
In her leisure she enjoyed watching movies and had a love for musicals. She also enjoyed reading and journaling. Her faith in God was a constant in her life which she enjoyed sharing with her granddaughters by attending services and supporting her husband in the choir at First Presbyterian Church.
Barbara will be remembered by many for her kind and welcoming personality. Those who spent time with her would learn that she had quite the sarcastic and funny sense of humor. People who knew her this way called her "a hoot" often. What people will remember most though is Barbara's surviving spirit. She did not give up easily, and could not be convinced to do anything that was not her own idea. She was strong willed and persistent in everything she did, including living for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Lucille Warren, husband Jim Bill Harris, Sons Bartley and Clint Bowden and sister Patricia.
She is survived by her son Curtis Bowden, Step-daughter Stephanie Cherry, Nieces Angie Roy and Debbie Hopf, Granddaughters Taylor Hughes and Storey Bowden, Laomai Cherry, Yasha Cherry, Chaya Cherry, as well as her great grandson Asher Hughes. She will be missed greatly and is celebrated in life by all who loved her. Her story continues every time a memory of her is shared to another. We know she is celebrating her return to family and those she loved.
A celebration of life will be held at her home in Clifton, Texas on February 8th 2025 from 12pm-5pm.
