Ann Brandt 1944 - 2025
Jo Ann Brandt, of Austin, Texas, died in Lakeway, Texas on February 12, 2025. To most, she was simply known as "Ann."
Ann was born in McAllen, Texas in 1944 to John Campbell and Willie Jo Brandt, and was the youngest of three daughters. She was born into a family of educators, so it was natural that she, too, chose to work in the field of education. She was a life-long public school teacher and librarian.
Ann grew up in Brownsville and Austin. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas in 1962. She went on to receive her BS in Elementary Education from the University of Texas-Austin in 1966. After many years of teaching, she pursued and completed her MLIS in Library Science also from the University of Texas-Austin. Ann spent her entire career in public education working for two school districts: Port Arthur ISD and Duncanville ISD. In Port Arthur, she was a fourth-grade teacher and librarian, and in Duncanville, she was a high school librarian. She retired from Duncanville ISD in 2010, and then resided in Austin, Texas until her death.
Ann was dearly loved and cherished by her large, close-knit family. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Campbell and Willie Jo Brandt. She is survived by two sisters, Brenda Brandt Williams and Terry Brandt; two nieces, Julie Starkey (Blake) and Ann Taparauskas (Trey); one nephew, John David Williams (Miranda); eight great nieces and nephews, Emily Starkey, Samuel Starkey, Joseph Taparauskas, Benjamin Taparauskas, Matthew Taparauskas, Grace Williams, J.R. Williams, and Scott David Williams; and a great-great niece and nephew, Oaklynn Starkey and Asher Starkey.
Ann's life will be celebrated at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday, February 22nd at 10AM, followed by a graveside burial at Gentry's Mill Cemetery in Hamilton, Texas at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown, Texas or the Austin Humane Society are greatly appreciated.
