Anita Ruth
Temme Carter
November 9, 1924 – November 8, 2019
Anita Ruth Temme Carter entered into eternal rest on November 8th, 2019, just 12 hours shy of her 95th birthday.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9th, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church, Georgetown. Mrs. Carter will then be laid to rest next to her husband, Ralph, at the Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Anita was a daughter of a Missouri Synod Lutheran Minister, Rev. Louis W. Temme and Elsie M. (Umbach) Temme. She grew up in rural Kansas in a church parsonage with her parents and six siblings. She had a love for church and family, and as an older child she enjoyed caring for others.
Anita decided to become a nurse. She attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri graduating in 1946 as an RN, in the Nurse Cadet Corps WWII Program of the Federal Government.
She first worked for the VA Hospital in Wichita, Kansas where she met Ralph Carter, her future husband. He was in that hospital after a motorcycle accident. He saw Nurse Anita and immediately fell for her. Anita and Ralph were married on July 22, 1948 in Warrenton, Missouri. They were married 68 years before Ralph passed away in 2016.
Anita was a wonderful, Christian wife and mother for the three daughters born to her and Ralph. After their girls grew up, Anita worked in several hospital settings and spent her last career years as a High School Nurse in Laredo, Texas. She retired in 1989.
Anita is described as sweet, caring and kind by all who knew her. She was an excellent baker, with Christmas cookies and apple pies as her specialty. She was also a skilled seamstress. She made her wedding gown from Ralph's military parachute (from WWII), and she tailor-made many suits for Ralph and herself, as well as fancy dresses for her three daughters.
During her husband's military career of 23 years, Anita and Ralph lived in many states of the US, as well as several years in Japan and Germany. She and Ralph loved to travel, bringing their girls along with them.
At Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown,Texas, Anita served in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Altar Guild and, of course as a Sunday Morning Greeter!
Anita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph M. Carter, Jr.; parents, Rev. Louis and Elsie Temme; brothers: Rev. Ralph Temme, Rev. Norman Temme, Rev. Elton Temme; sister, Carol Temme Bryant; son-in-law, Ron Gordon.
Left to cherish her memory are three daughters: Diane and husband, Rick Hoenerhoff of Georgetown, Cheryl Gordon of Burleson, Texas, Judy and husband, Joe Graves of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren: Shelly (Darrell) Higgins, Wendy (Bill) White, Rachael (Darrell) Monk, Aaron (Holly) Graves, Nathan Graves and Philip Graves; great grandchildren: Ashlee Jones, Sydney Higgins, James Higgins, Lillian Higgins, Samuel Graves and Eleanor Graves; brother, Harold Temme; sister, Lois Temme Frick.
Anita was outgoing, friendly, social and lived an everyday life of Christian evangelism to all those she met. She loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and looked forward to eternal life, because she knew that Jesus provided this for her through His grace and salvation.
