Raymond D.
Powell
Mar 15, 1925 — Dec 19, 2018
Austin
Raymond D. Powell was born in Houston, Texas on March 15, 1925, and he passed away in Dripping Springs, Texas on December 19, 2018. He was 93 years old.
As a young boy growing up during the depression, Raymond was acutely aware of how important it was to be helpful to his family. When he was old enough, he entered into military service during WW II in the United States Navy, serving on the Minneapolis, a heavy cruiser, in the South Pacific. Raymond was honorably discharged after the war.
Raymond had previously known of his future wife, Geraldine "Gerry" and upon exiting military service, Raymond and Gerry began dating and the rest is history. Raymond and Gerry were married 71 years. Raymond had placed his faith in Jesus Christ at a very young age. He raised his family under the admonition of God. Raymond served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and he participated on committees at the First Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Raymond was a member there for 45 years. He and Gerry were later members at the First Baptist Church in Georgetown, TX.
Raymond found work through a neighbor who thought he would be a good worker at a machine shop. After awhile, he was promoted to shop superintendent and eventually to Vice President. Raymond retired from LK Industries in Houston after almost 50 years.
Raymond enjoyed the outdoors and frequently the family would head off to Colorado, Wyoming, and W. Texas to behold God's creation. Raymond loved the Lord and he instilled in his family Biblical principles according to God's Holy Word. Raymond did favors for friends and strangers alike that only he and God knew about because that is the way he wanted it.
Raymond is survived by his wife Gerry, their two sons, Michael and his wife Sheryl; Steven, and his wife Judi. Raymond had five grandchildren, Brian Powell, Lauren Kolodziej, Lindsay Neuber, Lucas Powell, and Lowell Powell. Raymond is survived by 7 great grandchildren, Jetson Kolodziej, Fuston Powell, Andi Kay Powell, Mary Powell, Jack Powell, William Powell and Benjamin Powell. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, William Elisha Powell and Florence Shaw Powell. He is also preceded in death by his brother, William E. (Dub) Powell and sister, Virginia Strickling.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Raymond's name to First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Honor Flight Austin , or to your favorite charity.
